51 critical questions to ask your father
By  Earl el-amin

“The first man that I ever knew is still the best man that I have ever known, my father.”

I consider myself a very fortunate man. The relationship that I had with my father until his death on January 16, 2001, is one that I will forever cherish. Listed are some of the questions raised and discussed with my father, and I believe they are critical questions that should be discussed between African American fathers and their sons. Only a very nurturing and caring relationship could produce these questions and all of them were raised through different stages of my manhood development process. I hope that the questions listed will provide a starting point for sons to engage their fathers in positive and constructive dialogue, and I hope fathers will begin preparing themselves mentally, spiritually and personally to answer most, if not all, of the questions listed. Moreover, I hope more questions will be added to the list. Let the development of exceptional men, fathers, and husbands begin.
